Title: The Warmth That Will Warm Someone
What will I leave behind?
Perhaps a few poems,
rain rustling with hope,
like drops falling to the rhythm of spring.
Or a will sealed with a breath,
in which fall and rise
are words silent but enduring.
Or lost thoughts – leaves in the wind,
unfulfilled dreams – bridges to places
I haven't reached,
and letters never sent,
full of feelings that were too fragile
to see the light of day.
Perhaps important research results,
numbers that change lives,
or comfort offered
in moments of darkness,
when nothing but death was certain.
I would also like to leave a warning:
– Time flies faster than we think,
and what seems unimportant today
can become everything tomorrow.
And finally, from myself –
a handful of light I caught,
a smile caught in a child's gaze,
and the silence born of the understanding
that I don't have to leave behind great things,
it's enough...
a warmth that will warm someone
who will one day be looking for a home.
