Title: A Memory Woven by a Child's Smile
The morning dispersed the mists over the meadow,
the scent of wet grass was aroused
by the whispers of the rising sun.
The old tree by the house –
pieces of its bark were falling off,
rough to the touch,
rough as my grandparents' voices.
In its shade, I wrote poems,
wondering if heaven was closer
from here than from the city.
Hens ran behind the barn.
Their cries filled the area.
The creaking of the bucket over the well
seemed like singing,
and the cold water brought life to my hands.
Time passed more slowly.
Day and night had room for everything:
chases in the field,
the scent of herbs brewed by Grandma,
the taste of bread with honey
and reading books on the porch.
This image comes back like a dream,
though it's motionless, soundless,
yet it's teeming with life,
which I didn't understand then,
and which I miss now.
