Title: Holds and never dreams of letting go
I hold my breath.
With dilated pupils, I try to encompass
all the unbelievability.
My lips part slightly
in a silent question:
"Is this really happening?"
My body freezes in motion.
Caught between escape
and an attempt to understand,
I tense my muscles
—strings about to snap.
In my head, I have a madhouse
and torn thoughts, faded like old photographs.
My heart slows, speeds up—
a tearing apart of St. Thomas.
Others see a mask of surprise,
perhaps suspension, or a lack of seriousness in meaning.
They don't see the explosion within me,
only a fracture that can't be mended.
