Title: Avoiding Death, I Rejected Life
I left the house in the morning
taking nothing
but painless silence.
I left my name on the threshold
and let my hair loose in the wind
to disappear, to no longer be a body.
I fled from thoughts
that almost knew the wound.
I hid from the mirror
that remembered tears.
I (re)jected life –
a stone dragging me to the bottom
of the desert itself.
Searching for a breath
that didn't smell of fear,
that didn't tear me apart,
I found death, gentle as the first dawn.
And I no longer had to choose.
