Beyond forty, one begins to understand
not every flower carries fragrance,
not every song holds a melody;
not every breeze brings coolness,
not every smile conceals love,
and not everyone close to us
belongs to the heart.
The contrast between day and night
teaches us the language of time;
experience reveals
the difference between truth and falsehood.
Before recognizing religious identities,
we must learn to recognize conscience;
before placing faith in others,
we must listen to the voice within.
Yet age is not the true measure—
self-realization is the light of wisdom.
Those who have come to know themselves
are better able to understand others.
Though religion, race, and language may differ,
the pain within the human heart is universal;
love, compassion, and honesty
are humanity’s shared identity.
Age is merely a number
flowing through the pages of a calendar;
self-realization is the art
of reading oneself anew.
Beyond forty, I have come to understand
how often, while trying to understand the world,
I have failed to understand myself.
Now, I no longer seek answers to every question—
some truths become clear only in silence.
The more deeply I learn to understand myself,
the less unfamiliar the differences in others seem.
